Licenses
Original modules, with updates and support
Most of our modules are published under the Odoo Proprietary License (OPL-1). This page explains which modules are free and which are paid, what the license lets you do, and how to make sure your company is covered.
Open source
What is free
Free to use, to change and to share, under the terms of their license.
Odoo Community
Released by Odoo SA under the LGPL-3 license. Odoo Enterprise has its own license, from Odoo SA.
OCA modules and part of ours
The modules of the Odoo Community Association, including the Romanian localization of the community, are AGPL-3 or LGPL-3, and so are some of our modules. Under AGPL-3, whoever changes a module and offers it to others over a network must give them the source code.
OPL-1
What the Odoo Proprietary License allows
The license of most Terrabit modules, the same one used by many modules in Odoo Apps.
Use and change it, after you buy it
A module may be used, and changed for your own needs, only by those who have bought a valid license, usually in Odoo Apps, or who have a written agreement with its authors.
No copies for others
It is forbidden to publish, distribute, sublicense or sell copies of the module, changed or not.
One version series
A purchase covers a version series of Odoo, for example 19.0. The porting to the next version is covered for the customers who have this option in their contract.
Copied modules
Why a copied module is a risk for your company
A module taken from another database, from another customer or from a download site, or carried to a new version without a license for it.
No updates
Our modules are corrected often, for declarations, e-Factura and SAF-T. A copy keeps its old errors, also in the files sent to ANAF.
No support, no porting
Nobody answers for a module that was not bought, and it does not move with you to the next version of Odoo.
Code of unknown origin
A copy can be changed by anyone before it reaches you, in an ERP that holds your financial and personal data.
License and copyright
Using it breaks the license. Software is protected by copyright law, in Romania by Law 8/1996.
Check
How to check that you are in order
A purchase for each module
For each OPL-1 module you use: a purchase in Odoo Apps on the account of your company, or an invoice from us, for the version series you run.
The license of a module
It is shown on its page in Odoo Apps and in its manifest, the license key of the file __manifest__.py.
Before you choose an implementation team
Ask which modules it will install and where they come from: Odoo, the OCA, its own modules published in Odoo Apps, or modules bought from other authors. For a module that is in none of these places, ask who wrote it and under which license you may use it.
Modules written for your company
For a module developed only for you, the contract should say that you get the source code and the right to use and change it on the version it was developed for.
Let's check the licenses together!
Send us the list of Terrabit modules installed in your database, and we will tell you which licenses you still need.
